Voices That Help Me Think Clearly About God
No single voice can fully form our understanding of God. Left to ourselves, we can easily drift into narrow perspectives, shaped more by preference and familiarity than by the fullness of Scripture.
One of the most helpful things in my own formation has been listening to a diverse array of faithful voices—across backgrounds, traditions, and contexts. Not to replace Scripture, but to help illuminate it more clearly and challenge my own blind spots.
Voices I Return To Often
These are not the only voices worth listening to, but they are some that have consistently helped shape my thinking, deepen my understanding, and strengthen my devotion:
Matt Chandler
John Piper
Dr. Eric Mason
Dr. Charlie Dates
Jackie Hill Perry
Charles Spurgeon
Arthur Pink
Timothy Keller
Dr. Tony Evans
Each brings a different perspective, emphasis, and lived experience, yet all remain rooted in a serious commitment to Scripture.
The Value of Diverse Voices
Listening to a range of voices helps guard against building our theology in an echo chamber.
It exposes us to:
different cultural perspectives
different emphases within the same faith
different ways of articulating timeless truth
This does not dilute conviction—it refines it. It helps us hold more firmly to what is essential while growing in humility about what we may not yet see clearly.
Staying Anchored While Expanding
Diversity of voices should never replace the authority of Scripture—it should drive us back to it.
The goal is not to follow personalities, but to:
test what we hear against the Word
grow in discernment
deepen our understanding of God
Faithful voices don’t become the foundation—they help us see the foundation more clearly.
A Final Thought
God has not limited His work to one voice, one place, or one context. The more we listen wisely, the more we begin to see the breadth and beauty of His work across the Church.
Behold. Believe. Become.
